Meet Maggie Shao
Design has been a constant thread throughout my life. Inspired by my father, an architect, I pursued a master’s degree at the University of Michigan and began my career as a landscape designer in 2013. For eight years, I worked on projects that seamlessly blended creativity, functionality, and beauty in outdoor spaces.
My passion has always been designing for people and their everyday lives—understanding their needs, exploring creative possibilities, and transforming ideas into meaningful, tangible results.
My journey into UX/UI began in 2018, when I volunteered to design and build my company’s website. Seeing how small design changes could make a significant impact on the user experience was both exciting and inspiring. That moment marked the start of my transition into digital product design. Since then, I’ve deepened my expertise through courses, workshops, and hands–on projects, applying UX/UI principles to real–world challenges.
In 2021, I fully pivoted my career to become a product designer. I am currently working at Ford Motor Company, where I’ve designed and launched two apps with third–party integrations, designed innovative in–vehicle stationary entertainment experiences, and contributed to a range of connected vehicle features. Each project has strengthened my belief in design’s power to enhance both usability and delight for users. My journey as a product designer is still evolving, and I’m driven to keep learning and creating.
Outside of work, I stay active playing badminton and spending time outdoors with my chocolate lab, Coffee. Whether designing a user flow or hiking with my dog, I approach life with curiosity, creativity, and a focus on human connection.
